Welcome to surfwithturner.com!

As a native of Savannah and the coastal Georgia area, I have grown up in and around the creeks and ocean. My life has always been a water-filled adventure of boating, sailing and surfing. My father helped me buy my first surfboard when I was 15 and I rapidly became addicted to the "stoke" of surfing a wave. Surfing ignites a spirit in your heart unlike any other life experience. The surfing "bug" has taken me to many beaches along the east coast between Sebastian Inlet and Cape Hatteras, to California, Costa Rica and most recently Peru. It gives me great pleasure to share this experience with others, which is why I offer private surfing lessons. In 2006, I joined a team of surfers working with the YMCA summer youth camps and expanded my ability to share the surfing experience. Now in our fourth year, we continue to offer a quality introduction to surfing for the youth of Savannah, Tybee, and the Low Country. Please select the YMCA Surf Camp link for more information.
Church of the Open Sky
“… this concept comes from Tom Blake, a founding father of
modern surfing and a philosopher of life, and it says we should look for
synchronicity with nature and as such we can learn lessons from, among other
things, surfing. One of these lessons is that although man and man may always
fight, there’s always the capacity for what Hawaiians call aloha. That means
fellowship and living in a way that is guided by empathy and balance. We need
that right now. Another lesson is that the right path always works with nature,
not against it. We surfers take the energy of the sun – nature, life itself –
and find ways to ride it, tapping its power and moving forward with it. So as
far as I’m concerned, metaphorically, if not practically, we have the answer to
many of the world’s problems. That doesn’t help much, I know, but it reminds me
that somewhere in surfing there’s something truly valid. It’s a fad, a
sub-culture, a leisure pursuit, a billion dollar industry with over-hyped
heroes or whatever, but something tells me it’s also an enlightened and
completely useful way to waste your time." - Page 15. Surfer's Path Vol. 27. November 2001.
